Undergraduate researcher Emily Seifert was the recipient of one of two 2019 Scholarship Awards ($1000) from the Midwest Mineralogical and Lapidary Society of Michigan (MMLSM). Recipients were selected based on their demonstration of marked achievements in the fields of geology, mineralogy, paleontology, lapidary studies, environmental studies or related arts. Emily, an environmental science major, was presented with her award by Dr. Velma Bradley at the MMLSM club meeting in May.

Biking across the Milk River - we spotted some suspicious white foam near the treatment facility that we don't normally see. Big rainfall today with lots of water in the roads! Our crew went out to sample the stormwater in flooded areas throughout Detroit and also in the canals joining the Detroit River. We used this as a learning experience in sample collection for our undergraduate researchers.
